If you have always been enchanted by the diversity
of cultures and richness of history, Mari Mari Cultural
Village in Sabah is the place to be.
Lying on Northeastern Borneo, Sabah is home to
more than 30 indigenous groups. Each indigenous
group has its own fascinating array of cultures,
customs, traditions and languages. Although
the communities live with modern conveniences
and facilities, their age-old practices and cultural
heritage is still well-preserved and deeply
respected.
Mari Mari Cultural Village gives you a chance to get a
glimpse of Sabah’s colourful cultures in just half a day.
‘Mari’ which means ‘come’ or ‘come along’, represents the
warm and welcoming nature of the friendly ethnic groups
as they host visitors. Here, you will find out how the ethnic
communities lived long before the advent of modern
conveniences. What was their lifestyle like, deep in the
rainforest of Borneo?
The village showcases the five main indigenous groups of
Northeast Borneo – Dusun, Rungus, Lundayeh, Bajau and
Murut -while serving as a living museum that preserves
the fascinating cultures and traditions of the ethnic
communities.

Exotic Kadazan Culture
Love bouncing on
a trampoline?
Don’t miss the chance to
jump on ‘Lansaran’,
a traditional trampoline
and get rewarded too!
The tours give you the chance to meet the
descendants of the ethnic communities and visit
the tribal villages. The best part is, visitors get the
chance to sample some tasty local treats and drinks,
try out dart blowing or even get a henna tattoo.
One of the highlights is watching the Magunatip
bamboo dance, which is regarded as one of
Sabah’s most popular traditional performances. The
dancers deftly hop between bamboo poles that are
constantly being clapped together. As the music
quickens, the dancers will have to quicken their
moves too in sync with the tempo.
Filled with rare and unique activities, Mari Mari
Cultural Village allows you to blend in with the
indigenous communities, giving new meaning to
fun and adventure!
